Howard Carter

Howard Carter (* 9. Mai 1874 in Kensington, nahe London, England; † 2. März 1939 in London, England) war ein bekannter Archäologe bzw. Ägyptologe.

Leben und Werk

Berühmt wurde er 1922, als er am 4. November das Grab des Pharaos Tutanchamun im "Tal der Könige" fand. Die Nachricht von der Entdeckung ging damals um die ganze Welt und löste eine Ägyptomanie aus. Das bekannteste Fundstück dürfte wohl die goldene Totenmaske sein.
