June 9 - Gavazzi lectures in Zion Church, Montreal; calls himself, not Protestant, but Christian. The Church being attacked, he calls for cheers for the Queen, and congratulates his hearers that free speech is maintained. Major Wilson reads the Riot Act, but he and Lieut.-Col. Hogarth, 26th Rifles, who alone had a right, deny giving orders to fire. Col. Hogarth praises Captain Cameron, for striking up his Company's guns, at the risk of his life. About 40 are killed or wounded.
