They had a belief in a god named Prishiboro. Prishiboro had an older brother, who tricked Prishiboro into killing his elephant wife and later into eating his elephant wife's breast meat. Causing the dead wife's herd to come and try to kill Prishiboro. The older brother tricked Prishiboro again, thereby claiming victory over the elephant herd and shaming his brother.

!Kung people also had a tabu against anything dead, especially dead people. They believed that the ghosts of the deceased would cause them injury or death. It was tabu to even say the name of someone dead.

Also, the !Kung practiced shamanism in order to cure Star Sickness and to communicate with the spirit world. The communication with the spirit world would be done by the shaman entering into a trance state and then by running through a fire and chasing away bad spirits. Laying on of hands was used to cure Star Sickness.
