Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib

al-Abbas ibn `Abd al-Muttalib (566 - 652) was an uncle of Muhammad. He was only born a few years before his nephew, and was one of Muahmmad's youngest uncles. He intially did not accept Islam, but would later and was in good relations with his nephew. Through his son Abdullah ibn Abbas, the later Abbasid dynasty would claim it's rightful place as sucessors to Muhammad.

He is buried at the Jannat al-Baqi cemetary in Medina.
