The shoe was popular in the early 1980s and the in the late 1990s, but in the early 2000s they became very popular. These shoes became so popular in that the rapper Nelly created a song named after them in 2003. In this song rappers were rapping about how much they liked the shoe, how many pairs they have, and how many they buy at a time.
