Dr. Albert Hofmann (born 11 January 1906 in Baden, Switzerland), is best known as the inventor of the drug LSD. His titles include Ph.D, Dr. Pharm.(Hon.), Dr. Sc.Nat.(Hon.), Head of the Pharmaceutical-Chemical Research Laboratories (retired), Division of Natural Products, Sandoz, Ltd., Basel, Switzerland, Member of the Nobel Prize Committee, Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences, Member of the International Society of Plant Research and the American Society of Pharmacognosy.
Dr. Hofmann discovered the psychic effects of LSD after accidently ingesting some on April 16, 1943, while examining the pharmaceutical qualities of ergot derivatives. He also isolated psychoactive constituents of psilocybin mushrooms and invented a number of other pharmaceuticals.
He wrote a number of books about his experiences, including LSD, My Problem Child, Plants of the Gods, and The Road to Eleusis .
