Amyloid

Amyloid describes various types of protein aggregations that share specific traits when examined microscopically. The most well-known forms in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease and spongiform encephalopathies, such as mad cow disease. However, amyloid aggregation also occurs in several other organs and tissues and is associated with a wide variety of disorders.
