Canadian politician, Bachand is an independent member of the Canadian House of Commons. He had been elected as a Progressive Conservative, the only one in Quebec, representing the riding of Richmond--Arthabaska but when the party merged with the Canadian Alliance Bachand announced that he would not sit with the new party, the Conservative Party of Canada.
Bachand served as the Deputy House Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party, as well as its critic for the Intergovernmental Affairs, Industry, Science Research and Development, and the Deputy Prime Minister portfolios.
Bachand has been an administrator, and a business executive. He was the mayor of Asbestos, Quebec from 1986 to 1997, and was the Reeve of Asbestos from 1987 to 1997.
