Bacteriorhodopsin

The bacteriorhodopsin protein is a transmembrane protein made up of 7 membrane spanning alpha helices. It is structurally similar to rhodopsin, a pigment used in the retina of animals for sensing light.

Bacteriorhodopsin is a photosynthetic pigment used by archaea, most notably halobacteria.
