Barbara Bain

Barbara Bain as Dr. Helena Russell, MD
in Space:1999. Large version
Barbara Bain was born on 13 September, 1931, as Millicent Fogel; in Chicago, Illinois, USA. She was a student at the University of Illinois, from which she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology.

She went to New York city where she was a dancer and high fashion model. Ms. Bain studied with Martha Graham: thus cementing her interest in dancing.

It wasn't until she went to the Lee Strasberg school of acting that the acting bug bit, and hard... She has been an actress ever since.

Barbara is best known for her role in the landmark television series, Mission Impossible, as the versatile Cinnamon Carter. It was there that she would win three consecutive Emmies for Best Dramatic Actress.

Following that, she starred opposite her husband in the now classic British science fiction TV series, Space: 1999, as Dr. Helena Russell, M.D. That role, as much as that of Cinnamon Carter, has cemented her place in dramatic television show history.

In the time that followed, she has worked to further the cause of many charities, including literacy.

She and Martin Landau were married in 1957, and divorced in 1993.

She and Martin Landau are the parents of Juliet Landau, an actress, and Susan Bain Landau Finch, a film producer.
