Biggin Hill
Biggin Hill Originally a picnic destination for the London elite, Biggin Hill has rown to the size of a small town. In 1918 the Royal Air Force (RAF) built an airport on the high ground in Biggin Hill. Biggin Hill airbase was the home airbase of the first aircraft to take part in air to ground radio communications.
In World War 2 Biggin Hill was one of the commanding bases for the air defence of London with both Spitfires and Hurricanes being based here.
After the war Biggin Hill became the Officer Training centre for the RAF which was then relocated to RAF Cranwell. THe RAF base was closed in 1992. To be bought by Bernie Ecclestone or Formula 1 fame.
