Already before matura (swiss general qualification for university entrance) Ganz decides to become actor. 1960, age 19, he plays his first movie-role in "Der Herr mit der schwarzen Melone". Gustav Knuth, one of the main-actors, believed in his qualification as an actor.
Bruno Ganz is a member of the ensemble of Berliner Schaubühne. 1972 he debuts at Salzburger Festspielen under Claus Peymann as director in the debut-performance of Thomas Bernhard's "Der Ignorant und der Wahnsinnige".
2000 Ganz played the star role in Peter Stein's 13-hour performance of Goethes "Faust I" and "Faust II".
