In 1999, Nunavut was created from the Northwest Territories. Nunavut's population is mostly Inuit, while the population of the Northwest Territories is mostly Caucasian. The Yukon Territory lies in the western portion of the north, while Nunavut is in the east.
These Northern Territories are often refered to as a single region for orginizational purposes.
