Carbonic anhydrase

Carbonic anhydrase is an enzyme that assists the rapid inter-conversion of carbon dioxide and water into carbonic acid, protons and bicarbonate ions. It increases the efficiency of the reaction about millionfold. Its active site contains a zinc ion.
