Coquette

Coquette is a 1929 film which tells the story of a flirtatious young woman whose father warns off her honorable boyfriend, only to cause tragedy. It stars Mary Pickford, Johnny Mack Brown, John St. Polis, Matt Moore, and Louise Beavers.

The movie was adapted by John Grey, Allen McNeil and Sam Taylor from the play by George Abbott and Ann Preston Bridgers. It was directed by Sam Taylor.

It won the Academy Award for Best Actress (Mary Pickford).

The Coquette was also a novel by Mrs. Hannah Webster Foster written in letter form about a coquette, or a flirt, who inevitably ruins her life by being so. The novel, written about 1797, might also have deeper meanings involving Federalist and Anti-Federalist ideals from a Federalist point of view.
