Cotuit, Massachusetts

Cotuit is a village in the city of Barnstable, Massachusetts. Located on a peninsula on the south side of Barnstable, Cotuit is primarily residential with several small beaches.

In years past, Cotuit Oysters could be found on menus in restaurants from San Francisco to Boston to Paris. About 15 years ago or so however many oyster beds were stricken with a disease that killed nearly all Cotuit Oysters. Although not as prominent on the menu's around the world, you can still enjoy Cotuit Oysters today from the Cotuit Oyster Company and numerous Cape Code restaurants.

For nearly a century now the Cotuit Mosquito Yacht Club has hosted races during the summer months. Although the yacht club has had more than one fleet, the gaff-rigged sailing craft called the Cotuit Skiff has been raced for slightly over the 100 years that the yacht club has existed.

There is a newly published book by James W. Gould called Cotuit and Santuit, Images of America: Massachusetts (see link below) that is a great pictorial history of Cotuit.
