When originally founded in 1883 by the employees of a bicycle company, the club was known by the name of that company, Singers. Ten years later, the club turned professional after a very successfully season in which three seperate cups were won. In 1898, the club was renamed to Coventry City just prior to a move to new playing fields on the site of their present day stadium on Highfield Road.
Coventry City were elected into the Second Division of the Football League in 1919. They were never a notable team until a golden period in the club's history beginning in the early 1960s, symbolically beginning when a new sky blue coloured strip was introduced.History
