Cyrus West Field

Cyrus West Field (1819-1892) was an American financier [1] who, along with Samuel Morse, founded a corporation to lay the first transatlantic telegraph cable between Newfoundland and Ireland. This telegraph cable, laid in 1858, lasted only for one month.
