The Difaquane, which means 'the scattering', is the name given to the disorder introduced into the areas west of the Drakensberg mountain range in South Africa in the wake of the wars of Shaka. Tens of thousands of people died during these events. It is analogous to the Mfecane which took place on the eastern side of the Drakensberg mountains during the 1810s and 20s.
