Dumfriesshire was a county of Scotland. Its county town was Dumfries. It bordered the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright to the west, Ayrshire to the north-west, Lanarkshire, Peeblesshire and Selkirkshire to the north, and Roxburgh to the east. To the south it bordered the English county of Cumberland.
