He was the son of Ecgberht was a made a co-ruler by his uncle Hlothhere in about 679, but a few years later he revolted and defeated Hlothhere with the aid of the South Saxons, becoming king upon his uncle's death on February 6, 685. It was not long, however, before Kent faced the overwhelming invasion of the West Saxons under Caedwalla. In August 686, Eadric was defeated and Kent was conquered; it is presumed that he was killed in battle.
