Electronic design automation

Electronic design automation (EDA) is an umbrella term for computer-aided engineering, computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing of electronics in the discipline of electrical engineering. The term electronic design automation probably originates in the IEEE Design Automation Technical Committee.

EDA has rapidly increased in importance with the continuous scaling of semiconductor technology. (See: Moore's Law.)

Construction topics include: FPGA, integrated circuits primarily in CMOS technology, printed circuit boards, electronic design synthesis.

EDA also stands for Electronic Design Automation. This acronym is used to refer to the category of tools for designing and producing electronic systems from PCBs (printed circuit boards) to ICs (integrated circuits). This is sometimes refered to as ECAD (Electronic Computer Aided Design).
