Estonia was invaded and occupied by the USSR on June 17, 1940. Then it was conquered by the Germans before being re-annexed by the soviets in 1944.
Estonian SSR became the republic of Estonia in 1990 and was no longer a soviet republic in 1991. On August 20 of that year, it declared its independence.
Estonian SSR was a communist republic of the USSR.
Estonian SSR was one of the smallest republics of the USSR and was also smaller than most European countries. It also had over 1500 islands.
The standard of living in Estonian SSR was better than most other SSR's.
Aproximately 65% Estonians, big Russian minority, other statistically noteworthy minorities included Ukrainians, Latvians and Finns.
