Games played with Go equipment

There are a number of games which can make use of Go equipment: pieces (stones) differentiated only by their colour, a regular 19x19 grid board. Although that is standard size for a board, there are 13x13 and 9x9 variants available as well.

Since Go uses the lines of these boards, they can also be considered 18x18, 12x12, and 8x8 if the squares are used. A number of games such as Draughts and Crossings which were not originally intended for Go equipment can be trivially adapted; the use of tape or paper to cover sections of the board, creating smaller rectangles, can be used to facilitate play of Philospher's Football and Epaminondas.

Like Go itself, many of these games share a certain aesthetic quality; the patterned layouts of half-played games can be viewed from an artistic standpoint.

Games that can be played without modification on the intersections of a 19x19 Go board include:

Alak, although technically only a single line (such as the centre line) is used
Breakthrough, which can be played on just about any board shape one wishes
Gonnect
Gomoku, Ninuki-Renju and its close relative Pente
Tanbo
