German Federal Coast Guard

The German Federal Coast Guard (german Küstenwache) is an agency of the federal government which coordinates the maritime activities of the various authorities. The activities together with the prime authority: The Küstenwache is subdivided into two parts, one for the North Sea based at Cuxhaven, one for the Baltic Sea in Neustadt (Holstein).

Ships of the German Coast Guard

Altogether 28 ships make up the fleet, 10 by the Navy, 12 by the Customs, 3 for Fishery protection and 3 of the Federal Waterways and Shipping Adminstration. Also several helicopters and planes are in use.

Ships include the following:

  • BG17 Bayreuth
  • FSB Seeadler
  • Glücksstadt
  • BG22 Neustrelitz
  • SUBS Mellum
