The Godolphin Arabian (1724 - 1754), also known as the Godolphin Barb, was one of three horses which were the founders of the modern thoroughbredhorse racing broodstock. The Godolphin Arabian was born in Yemen. He was a gift to the then King Louis XV of France; he was subsequently purchased by an Englishman named Edward Coke who sold him to the Earl of Godolphin.
