Governors Island

Governors Island is an island in Upper New York Bay, approximately one half mile from the southern tip of Manhattan, in New York City. It is separated from Brooklyn by the Buttermilk Channel.

Recently it was the site of United States Coast Guard base. On January 31, 2003, control of the island was transfered to the National Park Service, which now operates the island as Governors Island National Monument.
