Harvard National Model United Nations is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious simulation of its kind. Each year, HNMUN brings together nearly two thousand college students and faculty advisors from colleges and universities across the globe and provides them with a unique opportunity to experience the challenges of international negotiation.
HNMUN's Philosophy True to the mission of the United Nations as declared in its 1945 charter, HNMUN serves as a forum for dialogue on international peace and security, economic and social progress, and the maintenance of fundamental human rights. In this spirit, HNMUN emphasizes the need for constructive and open discussion among all nations in order to negotiate the challenges in international relations today.
HNMUN stresses a detailed and comprehensive examination of diverse and pressing issues. In committee sessions, delegates will strive to preserve their countries’ positions in the face of diverse international viewpoints in developing solutions to world problems. HNMUN further aims to provide as realistic a simulation as possible to better educate and inform delegates about the complexities of international cooperation and to create new and innovative opportunities for delegates to have an experience truly unique on the collegiate Model UN circuit.
HNMUN’s committees emphasize the cultivation of compromise and consensus-building above the mere creation of a finished resolution, with the goal of allowing delegates to better appreciate the importance of the United Nations in today’s world. This year we bring to the conference a half-century of experience and a staff which will exhibit the highest standards of enthusiasm and professionalism at the dais and behind the scenes.
