Hausa-Fulani

The Hausa and Fulani people live in Northern-Nigeria, Mali, and Niger republic. The Hausa are an ancient culture that had an extensive coverage areas, and long ties to the Arabs. The Hausa have been Muslim since the 14th century, and have converted a lot of Nigerian tribes to the muslim faith.

The Fulani are a nomadic people that live in the same region where the Hausa live, but are not related to them. Whereas the Hausa have got very dark skin and round faces, the Fulani have got a reddish skin and longer and thinner faces. The Fulani are cattle herders, and move around searching from grasslands where their cattle can graze.

In the past, the Hausa had an extensive empire ruled by a Sultan based in Sokoto. This empire crumbled as the British colonists arrived.
