Hexane

Hexane is an chemical compound with empirical formula C6H14, the "hex" thus referring to its six carbons. It is a hydrocarbon structure, an alkane with many possible structural formulae. It is largely unreactive. Hexanes are common ingredients in gasoline.

Hexane can exist in ring form. However, a more common six-carbon ring form is benzene.

Since it is an alkane, its presence can be told apart from alkenes since it does not discolour bromine water.\n
