IFS

IFS (Installable File System) in the OS/2 operating system, is a method of using certain drivers that recognize different file systems on a computer. For example, for OS/2 to recognize a CD-ROM file system, the CD-ROM IFS has to be loaded.

The standard installation provides IFSs for HPFS, JFS, CD-ROM and RAM disk. FAT support though is integrated in the kernel. Other IFS provided by IBM or third-parties include NTFS, FTP, ext2, Andrew File System, Toronto Virtual File System, NFS.

IFS can also stand for Iterated Function System, in mathematics and computer science.
