Image processing

Image processing is the application of signal processing techniques to the domain of two-dimensional images such as photographs or video. Some domain-specific techniques exist for things such as feature extraction, but conceptually it does not differ from other forms of signal processing.

As a field of research, "image processing" can be identified with digital image processing. Output of image processing is often fed into higher level Computer Vision algorithms aimed at 'understanding' the processed images.
