Wild achieved fame at an early age for his role as the Artful Dodger in the stage and movie productions of the Lionel Bart musical Oliver. For the latter performance he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He subsequently landed the lead role in the Sid and Marty Krofft-produced television series H.R. Pufnstuf.
Excessive drinking at an early age derailed his career. Sobering up in 1988, he returned to the big screen in a few minor roles, but for the most part has been working in theatre.
