It announced on February 25, 2004 that it would start flying on May 25 of that year. It offered promotional fares as low as $29 Australian in order to entice passengers from Virgin Blue. It has chosen Avalon Airport near Geelong in Victoria as its base.
Virgin Blue has countered the $29 promotion by offering passengers 200,000 places at $29 as compared to the 100,000 offered by JetStar. Both offers extend to the end of June.
