Kamal Jumblatt was a dedicated socialist who advocated land reform. He wanted to break up large land holdings and give tenant farmers a chance to own the land they worked.
Kamal Jumblatt was assassinated on March 16, 1977 by pro-Syrian factions of the Lebanese Syrian Socialist Nationalist Party (SSNP). He was succeeded as leader of the Druze community by his son, Walid Jumblatt.
