KDDI Corporation is a Japanesemobile phone operator. It was formed in October 2000 through the merger of DDI Corporation, KDD Corporation and IDO Corporation.
KDDI is the only CDMA operator in Japan, using the brand name au. On April 1st, 2002, KDDI launched one of the world's first 3G networks using CDMA2000 1x technology, and on November 28 of the same year they upgraded to CDMA2000 1xEV-DO.
