Lezgian is a loose and imprecise term used to refer to all speakers of the 30 or so Dagestani or North-East branch of the Alarodian languages. The term still strikes a chord in the hearts of most Russians for their fame in resisting Russian conquest for more than half of the 19th century. Lezgi or Kuri is also the name of one of the more important of these languages with a total of around 370,000 speakers speread over Dagestan & Azerbajan.
