Below is a list of counties and other municipal divisions in the Canadian province of Ontario. There are four different types of these divisions:
counties are small governments with townships and cities within them;
regional municipalities also have smaller divisions within them, but are larger governments with more responsibility;
standalone cities and municipalities have a single level of municipal government;
districts (in the sparsely-populated north) have county-level services provided directly by the provincial government.
These are the 'top-level' municipalities - some contain other cities, townships, etc.; see each municipality's article for details. These divisions, among others, are used by Statistics Canada to break down census data. This list has not taken into account some recent reorganization of municipal boundaries.
