The Loblolly Pine, Pinus taeda, is one of the two pines native to the southeast United States with long leaves, These leaves are in bundles of three needles with a length of 12 to 22 cm and are sometimes twisted. The trees reach a height of 30 meters with a diameter of about 0.9 meter. The yellowish, resinous wood is highly prized for lumber, but is also used for pulp fibers. This tree is commercially farmed. The cones are 7 to 13 cm in length.
The name Loblolly means a low wet place, but these trees are not limited to that specific habitat. Other common names include Bull pine or Rosemary pine, the latter name due to the fragrance of this plant.
