The neighborhood has historically been home to movie stars, musicians, and other assorted members of the glitterati, although never on the level of Beverly Hills, its West Los Angeles counterpart. It is also home to some of the finest architecture in the city, including two homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Hollyhock House and the Ennis-Brown House.
However, it was not until the mid-1990s, after the release of the movie Swingers and a series of articles proclaiming Los Feliz the "SoHo of Los Angeles," that the area achieved the status of "L.A. hot spot." Lovingly (or not so lovingly) derided as "swarming with hipsters," Los Feliz is home to some of L.A.'s most popular bars and coffee houses.
