Lucas Mangope

Kgosi Lucas Manyane Mangope (born 1923) is the former leader of the Bantustan of Bophuthatswana. He was Chief Minister from 1972 to 1977, and president from 1977 to 1994. He was appointed by the South African government, and after a failed coup in 1988, was reinstated by them. He was found guilty of fraud in 1998 and is now leader of the South African United Christian Democratic Party.
