Magnus Malan
General Magnus Malan (b. January 30, 1930) is a former Minister of Defence (in the cabinet of President P. W. Botha), Chief of the South African Defence Force (SADF) and Chief of the South African Army.
General Malan served as Minister of Defence from 1980 to 1991.
In 1995 he was charged with apartheid-era murders, but was acquitted after a trial in 1996.
