Manowar is an American heavy metal band from Auburn, New York, which formed in 1980. The original members were Eric Adams on vocals, Joey DeMaio on bass, and Donny Hamzik on drums. The group was widely known for its violent, primal attitudes, as displayed by wearing animal skins on stage; they continued to release records until 2002 under such titles as Triumph of Steel, Hell of Steel, and Louder than Hell.
Michael Shankle (1989 - 1993) played for a while for "Chicago", before he was chosen from about 150 guitarists to replace Friedman. Eric and Joey met him while recording "Kings of Metal" in Chicago
