The Communist Party of Canada (Marxist-Leninist) is a Canadian federal political party whose platform is the promotion of socialism. It is registered with Elections Canada as the Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada. It was founded in 1961 by Hardial Bains as the Internationalists, a Maoist party that backed the People's Republic of China in the Sino-Soviet split. The party moved away from Maoism after the death of Mao Zedong and is today a Stalinist party. It has always viewed the Communist Party of Canada as revisionist.
The CPC-ML has limited influence in a few unions, particularly the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, but has never had any of its candidates elected to political office in Canada. The party reached its greatest strength in the late 1970s and early 1980s being able to run over 100 candidates in the 1979 and 1980 federal elections under the slogan Make the Rich Pay. More recently, it runs only a handful of candidates in general elections.
