Mor lam sing
"Mor lam sing" is a fast-paced, racy, modernized version of a traditional Lao/Northeastern Thai song form Mor Lam. A lead singer is accompanied by the khaen, a bamboo mouth organ, and electronic backup.
The name comes from
- หมอ mor an expert, combines with a second word to indicate doctors, shamans, masseurs, lawyers etc.
- ลำ lam song, music
- ซิ่ง sing to race, from English "racing"
The songs are generally about disappointment in love or the hardships of life away from the Northeast of Thailand. Sexual innuendo is prominent, and performances depend for much of their audience appeal on young, fancifully dressed female dancers, called "hang khreuang".
