Motoneuron

Motoneurons (also called motor neurons) are neurons which interface with motor units; they cause skeletal muscle to contract.

More precisely, they are neurons originating in the spinal cord which efferently innervate muscles. Upon excitement, nearly all motoneurons release the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at synapses called neuromuscular junctions in order to initiate muscle contraction.
