Nikolaus Copernicus University, one of the most respected universities in Poland. Named after Nikolaus Copernicus, Polish astronomer born in Torun.
Over 40 000 students in Torun and Bydgoszcz. Found in 1945 on the basis of (former Stephan Bathory University from Wilno).
2003 Medical academy of Bydgoszcz joined the university as Collegium Medicum.
