Ōita (大分市; -shi) is the capital city of Oita prefecture on the Kyushu island of Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 441,270 and the density of 1,222.90 persons per km². The total area is 360.84 km².

The city was founded on April 1, 1911.
