Famous alumni include Joel Hefley, Houston Nutt, Allie Reynolds, Stuart Roosa, Pat Smith, Garth Brooks and Barry Sanders. George Jewsbury was a professor at OSU for a number of years.
The school's sports teams are called the Cowboys. They participate in the NCAA's Division I-A, and in the Big Twelve Conference.
