Peter Garrett

Peter Garrett is the current national president of the Australian Conservation Foundation, activist, and former frontman of Midnight Oil. He left the band in December of 2002 after twenty-nine years with them to focus more fully on his environmental and social activism.

Garrett has worked with several environmental organisations. He served as president for the Australian Conservation Foundation from 1989 to 1993 and in 1998 began another term as president. He also joined the International Board of Greenpeace in 1993 for a two year term. Garrett serves as adviser and patron to various cultural and community organizations including Jubilee Debt Relief and was a founding member of the Surfrider Foundation.

In 2000 he was awarded the Australian Humanitarian Foundation Award in the Environment category. In 2001 was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University of New South Wales.
